The Story
Live From the 101 started out as a simple idea. Well, not that simple.
Back in September of 2005, I started a category on Avalonstar entitled, “Bryan’s Wondering.” This category was my excuse for writing things that didn’t really make much sense. November comes along, and here I am wondering how I could take it to the next level.
So I thought, “man, podcasting would be nice.” Although, when it came to podcasting, I had no idea where to start. That’s where Odeo came in. So on November 4th, I recorded the first episode of Live From the 101. In one of my favorite episodes, “Ramen”, I talked for a few minutes on my way to work about how beef ramen trumped chicken ramen. The rest, is pretty much history.
On June 14th, I made my frequent guest Dan Rubin of Superfluous Banter co-host of the series, and that’s where we stand today. It is still Live From the 101, even though Dan lives in southern Florida, but I’m pretty sure he has one near him. Either way, I hope you enjoy it, and if you ever feel nostalgic the first 12 episodes of the first series will always be on Odeo.

Don’t ask us how the topic was brought up, but since Dan just joined the league of console owners with his recent PS2 purchase, we thought it was pretty appropriate. Take a stroll down memory lane with us as we reminise and compare Dan’s “destructive” personality to my… “I like the story” one.

In our first live podcast since we started the program a year prior, Dan and I take a RadioShack microphone and peruse the hallways of the Austin Convention Center to interview as many people as humanly possible for this special episode of Live. We talk about the panels, the parties, the drinking, the dancing and we even manage to morph into a sports channel, giving some color commentary to a group of “slackers” playing Mario Kart DS. Even though it’s our longest, it’s definitely the most fun we’ve had. So don’t mind the scratchy party-ridden voices and enjoy!

With noticable sound quality enhancements, we talk about Revyver and the reasons for its so-called “client pickyness.” From there the episode moves onto the topic of Internet Explorer and how we should be preparing for its death sooner than we might expect. Take this episode with a grain of salt, you might need it to get you out of the aural induced coma.
